The Granny Club
Closely linked to the Saidia is the 'Granny Club', a
project being very capably run by Teresa.
The club helps grannies who are bringing up orphans within
the community. The club holds meetings and classes to help grannies manage their plots and improve their crops. There is a scheme to help them install rainwater collection tanks and a goat breeeding program that will eventually provide each granny with goats from an original single pair. Grannies are also encouraged and helped to set up small businesses making bags or beadwork to supplement their income. Most recently Teresa has set up a literacy scheme to help grannies cope with the forms and paperwork that are are a necessary part of life, even in Kenya.

The club is strictly a
self-help project, so we do not provide funding. But whenever possible
we bring their produce back to the UK, where it sells for a better
price than they can get locally, and where necessary we try to find
sponsors to pay education fees for the children.
Teresa also runs a Youth Project for the children of the Granny Club and other street kids. They meet monthly and discuss topics such as HIV/AIDS, relationships and social behavior.
